15 Years and Counting
Many moons ago, a cub had an idea to get some people together and record their thoughts on dang near everything and anything. They called it Cubs Out Loud. Since then, 678 sequential episodes have been produced, two generations of hosts, thousands of hours for listening/watching guys yammering, and over 450 videos on YouTube. It’s been a wild ride for a decade and half. What comes next? Hell if we know!
In this episode of Cubs Out Loud, it’s another installment of Let’s Talk About Kink. The guys are again joined by Tony aka Cubziz and reminisce about the adult magazines of yore. As Drummer Magazine makes a resurgence in both print and digital forms, the cubs discuss the shift from physical materials to digital ones to fap to and whether there is an audience for it. From Honcho to American Grizzly and from BEAR to Mandate, listen in as the guys peruse their porno roots to wonder about the future.

Let’s Talk About Kink: Drummer Magazine Returns
Once upon a time, bears, cubs, admirers and more around the world enjoyed turning the pages of hard copy print magazines until the pages stuck together. Then the internet appeared on the scene, shifting focus for where we got our smut. 2007 sees the landscape change with turning a mobile phone into this thing called a smartphone. Soon after paper pages are replaced by swiping and sexting. Over a decade after the iPhone’s debut, the once very much enjoyed Drummer Men adult magazine is coming back on the scene. Is there an audience for a ‘zine’ – be it online with a print option?
In this episode of Cubs Out Loud, the guys are joined once again by Dr. Edward Angelini-Cooke to continue our Landscape of Relationships series. For this episode, the guys discuss QPRs or Queer Platonic Relationships. QPRs are intimate relationships that are neither romantic nor sexual in nature. Listen in as Ed builds up the fundamentals of this different relationship dynamic and its origins and brings it up to date for modern audiences.

Landscape of Relationships: Queer Platonic Relationships
Landscape of Relationships returns. Queer platonic relationships are our focus this month when it comes to relationships. QPRs are committed intimate relationships which are neither romantic nor sexual in nature and that differ from close friendship by having the same structure and status as a romantic relationship. The concept originates in aromantic and asexual spaces in the LGBT community. The term has begun to also be used in polyamorous communities to help describe the complex relationships. The term “queers” social norms for defining relationships, it isn’t a friendship nor is it a romantic relationship.
Asexual (Ace)
“Sexual orientation where a person experiences little to no sexual attraction to anyone and/or does not experience desire for sexual contact” (aceandaros.com, 2021)
Aromantic (Aro)
“Romantic orientation, which describes people whose experience of romance is disconnected from normative societal expectations, commonly due to experiencing little to no romantic attraction, but also due to feeling repulsed by romance, or being uninterested in romantic relationships.” (AUREA FAQ on Aromanticism.org, 2021).
Allosexual
“Describes people who are not on the asexual spectrum. They can have any romantic orientation, including aromantic” (TAAAP.org, 2021).
Alloromantic
“Described people who are not on the aromantic spectrum. They have any sexual orientation, including asexual” (TAAAP.org, 2001).
Historically speaking , QPR has been described as an “ancient practice made new again”.
Boston Marriages – A Boston marriage was one in which two independent women chose to build a life and a household together, rather than marrying.
Romantic Friendships – Close but often times non-sexual relationship. Used primarily in historical contexts (e.g. Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens; Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed).
Zucchini
Term of endearment used to describe a queerplatonic partner.
Also, “squish” has been used to describe a non-romantic crush.

Congrats to previous guest Paul Lanner on the success of this month’s HAH The Event.com!
From the HAH FB post on July 11, 2022: The amazing speech given by the Tommy Clancy, HAH haunter of the year. “I am honored to be the recipient of the Haunters Against Hate haunter of the year award. From a young age I have been very passionate about Halloween. Without my incredibly supportive parents it wouldn’t have been possible for me to get involved with the haunt industry. My family and I put on a home haunt every year starting when I was 8 years old. After a few seasons my Mom and I traveled to Columbus for the Midwest Haunters Convention. I walked into the convention center with the biggest smile on my face, I felt at home; I was surrounded with what I love. A few years back I met Paul and was instantly made to feel welcome and loved. I am so thankful to have met him, the incredibly kind man that he is. He asked me to be in volume one of the Haunters Against Hate books and I very excitedly accepted, with my home haunt character. Eventually I grew out of wanting to put on the home haunt, I wanted more. I am appreciative of Jenny Braverman for gracefully introducing my family to the Zombie Army Productions team. The next season I started scaring at HellsGate Haunted House. I’m very lucky and grateful to now be a part of the Zombie Army, the most loving and rowdy group I could ever ask for. Zombie Army has taught me to be proud of who I am, something easier said than done. I have always preached acceptance of everyone, but at the same time have struggled with acceptance of myself. I am currently recovering from Anorexia, a disease stemmed in hate and unacceptance. I didn’t even know if I would be able to attend this ceremony because I was away from home for 2 months due to my treatment program. I used attending Haunters Against Hate the event as motivation. I was struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel for so long, but that’s just what Haunters Against Hate is for me. That light at the end of the long fucking tunnel. I was able to muster all my might and get through it. I owe it to Paul and the love of my family. Thank you for this honor Paul and for the work you do for our community.”
