Nerd Culture: Then vs Now

Those that lived in the 70s & 80s remember the film franchise ‘Revenge of the Nerds’. Back then ‘nerd’ was used as a slur. Fast forward to four decades later and nerd culture has become a thing, a whole entertainment industry if you will. But is the current interest in all things nerdy an actual shift in overall perspective and acceptance? Or have things moved into an inevitable cash grab as the nerds of the 80s are now adults with disposable income?
