I went to see my friend Nakia play at Momo’s tonight and had my staple beer there, Newcastle. Honestly, I’ve never thought about why I chose Newcastle over Pilsner Urquell, Fireman’s 4 or and of the other beers or the possible cocktails. I thought about it this evening and it came down to two things, Drinkability and Flavor.
In general, I lean towards the darker beers. Now while I like some Porters, I’m definitely not a stout fan. The dark beers I refer to are the brown and red ales. I love them and Newcastle is definite proof of that. It’s dark brown, sweet, and smooth while the reds I like are more bitter yet have a nice smoothness, such as the Alamo Drafthouse’s house brew by Independane Brewing call the Alamo Ale. If you ever get a chance to try either of these beers, do and you may understand my beer palate. Just keep in mind that while my preference is Newcastle, Pilsner Urquell is my second choice.
