COL123: Chili Can Be Fart-Proof

Tim’s returned from his trip back east and comes back with questions surrounding hushpuppies and barbecue sauce.  Aside from the culinary curiosities, including Griff’s shout out to his partner in cookie, we discuss the ruling against DOMA and the seeming dissolve of a few bear clubs. All that and a wonderfully translated voicemail courtesy of Google Voice.

First off the good.  I enjoy your show and the subjects you cover.  Griff I think you helped to bring the show more on track.

That being said Griff while I love what you bring to the show I think you can sometimes be overpowering with your opinons.  The others seem to have to strugle sometimes to get their opions a crossed.

Though in your latest episode you seem to be working on it and I look forward to where you will take the show.

Tim lately you seem bored with the show and have not been talking as much.  Though with what you just talked about, I can understand how that could be on you mind more than the show.

Jeff I think you have been doing a good job finding topics and voicing your opions in the show.

Anyway despite the crtisim I love you all and I love the show and look forward to more.

Now another topic that relates to the topic brought up by a fan in your most recent show.

As our community slowly claws it’s way to acceptance I feel that the gay “community” is dissapating.  Now I live in san diego california so  this feeling may be somewhat unique to me.  How is the gay community in your area.  What is the level of acceptance?  Do you feel your community is fading or coming together more in recent years?

  • Report from Pride NYC from Jay

Hello Guys,

Ok….So NYC gay pride bear style was a lot of fun. First was the summer fur dance where we saw over 400 sweaty bears getting down to great beats. As I stated last week I took pictures for Bearfilms.com and the bears loved to pose for the camera. Some even stopped smoking weed for a quick photo op or pulled their hands out of a bears pants to say cheese.

Saturday saw the bears taking on water as we sailed the Hudson river. Food, fur, floating and the biggest queen of them all, Lady Liberty, really makes for a good ole bear of a time. Along with music and performances from some really talented bears (and a cute non-bear).  Hot, sexy, naughty bears on a boat for 4hrs. How can you go wrong? Again took pics for Bearfilms, so you can check those out next week.

Sunday was the parade. I actually march with the Lesbian Gay Big Apple Corps of NYC. I love marching in that fucking parade. I can’t do much for the gay movement but I can make our community proud through sound, movement and art. If you ever get the chance to march in a pride parade DO IT! It might just bring a tear to your eye.  Not like men do on TV so Griff don’t you worry.

On a different note the Best Kiss of the Week shit is bull. I agree if they were gay men kissing then it would be much more important than two straight guys kissing on the tube. But how does that differ from TV sitcoms were the gay character is involved in a kissing scene like on Will and Grace?

Also to piggy back on my other statement, Griff should go check out Atlanta Bear Fest. What’s the point of calling yourself a bear if you don’t get involved and show support. A lot of these Bear runs support many other charities and organizations. Grab a beer and a bear and go for a little while. and that goes for the whole crew. Not saying make it your life but get out and support your local gay events or at least stay active in the gay community and it will support you back. Especially if you feel the listening volume has dropped.

That’s it for now.

Hey Guys,

I wanted to drop you guys a line and say hello. I know in the last podcast you asked for some feedback. So here goes…. I think the show is great yet I think a little more structure would help the show. I know that you guys do have different segments but it seems sometimes the segments go by the wayside for example the “what the bu fucks” (sp) sometimes you have them and sometimes you don’t. Just something to think about.

I know for me I would love to hear the group’s opinion on current gay news and happenings around the world whether it be political, entertainment or whatever. Also I think it would be totally interesting to hear your coming out stories and when you knew you were gay seeing this is pride month. Another topic I would love to hear discussed would be do you think the bear community is one that is more accepting then the gay community as a whole. I was having a conversation with a fellow gay at work who when I told him I was going to a bear bar in DC sort of looked at me like I was crazy. It was the first time that had ever happen to me.

Ok well have a great show.

PS_ Jeff loved the vids on xtube…very HOT!!!! You should do more for sure

  • Discussion on COL Facebook Page from Sean

I love the podcast and have listened to it for awhile now. I do feel, though, that the podcast has lost a direction. The problem is this – “What do cubs talk about?” As you guys have stated in the last podcast, it seems that the gay community has gotten boring, has lost its edge while becoming more domestically accepted. But I think that is where the problem lies. I’m pretty sure that gay men still have thoughts that would be considered risque, but we don’t express them outright like we once would have in this attempt at becoming “normal”. So I pose a question that may help you guys out of a podcast rut. Do you have any thoughts that straight men (or non-cub and non-bear gay men) would find as being taboo, nasty, or just downright inappropriate? I know you guys talk fairly candidly about things, but maybe you need to just let yourselves go a bit further. As part of a younger generation, being gay hasn’t become boring or normal just yet (especially when you have to keep explaining to people what a cub/bear is and watch their reaction to the words “hairy” and “gay” being put in the same sentence). If you have to put a mild cap on the conversation for any reason, I understand, but just for ONE podcast, let yourselves cut loose and see what happens!

I love the podcast, and I hope Griff doesn’t leave! He provides a voice that is needed among you guys! Keep up the good work – movies, wine, skepticism and all 🙂

-Sean G.

Nurturing families come in many forms, and children may be raised by a father and mother, a single father, two fathers, a step father, a grandfather, or caring guardian. We owe a special debt of gratitude for those parents serving in the United States Armed Forces and their families, whose sacrifices protect the lives and liberties of all American children. For the character they build, the doors they open, and the love they provide over our lifetimes, all our fathers deserve our unending appreciation and admiration.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, in accordance with a joint resolution of the Congress approved April 24, 1972, as amended (36 U.S.C. 109), do hereby proclaim June 20, 2010, as Father’s Day. I direct the appropriate officials of the Government to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on this day, and I call upon all citizens to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities. Let us honor our fathers, living and deceased, with all the love and gratitude they deserve.
