The 10,000 Bear Initiative
Some of you might have caught a note that I posted on Twitter, Pownce and LiveJournal but I thought I’d post something here as well as it may affect COL. This past Saturday I had a gentleman come to my door asking for Karl. I, of course, told him that he was deceased. The man told me that he was coming to offer to purchase the house from him as it was scheduled for foreclosure on April 1st. Now, this was saturday do I really couldn’t do much of anything regarding this at the time. Or at least I assumed as much as it was a weekend. Today I need to get in contact with my lawyer to see what she has to say and find the information to call the mortgage company.
In the meantime, I’d like to make a proposition. There must be more than 10,000 bears out there. If 10,000 bears pledged out $10 each, I could pay off Karl’s house and other debts and pay to finish the house as he wanted to. I’ll see if
I can find the email he sent to his sister about what he wanted so I can share it with you. So I’d like to offer up the 10,000 Bear Initiative. The idea is to get pledges, not money yet at least, from 10,000 bears in order to clear up Karl’s debts. Karl was an amazing man. You can find out a little more about him at http://www.karldavidgahley.org/. If you knew Karl, please send a memory and a picture representing your memory of Karl to applejsa@mac.com.
After the initial 10,000 Bear Initiative, I’d like to keep it going to help other bears and cubs in similar conditions. I’d love to have volunteers from around the country to take ownership of the initiative in their area to help get pledges whenever a new drive is started. While I call it the 10,000 Bear Initiative, this does not have to be just bears. Any generous person is welcome to participate.
Hmm, I think I’m proposing a charitable organization. How did I do that?
