Bear Politics in Houston
The Houston Area Bears belongs to a consortium of clubs and organizations in and around greater Houston known as the Houston Council of Clubs (HCC). HCC’s primary activity is to mobilize it’s member clubs in coordinating the legendary LUEY Weekend. Tradition has it that each participating club or organization in good standing with HCC can have their home bar included in the roster of events / cocktail receptions. About six months ago the Bears moved their home bar from the lovably infamous Mary’s to a newly managed (and may I add much nicer) establishment called Tony’s Corner Pocket, a decision that caused quite a commotion in our little community. There were many reasons for the move, all of which were sound and perfectly justifiable.
As a member of HCC, Tony’s Corner Pocket will be included in next year’s LUEY Weekend. The Board tried desperately to get LUEY on this year’s agenda; that idea was shot down faster than Dick Chaney’s hunting partner, for reasons we still as yet are unaware of.
HCC rotates the location of it’s monthly meetings among the various home bars of it’s member clubs. As it so happens, tomorrow night’s meeting, the first post-LUEY meeting, will be held at Tony’s Corner Pocket. It will be quite interesting to see how this plays out…..
